Eligibility

This challenge is open to:

  • Students, professionals, and enthusiasts in urban planning, environmental sciences, technology, and related fields.
  • Individuals or teams of up to 5 members.
  • Participants must be at least 18 years old or have parental consent.

Project and Submission Requirements

  • Submissions must be original and developed specifically for this challenge.
  • All submitted materials must be in English or include English translations.
  • Ensure your solution is feasible for implementation in real urban settings.

Prizes

The Urban Green Space Optimizer Challenge offers exciting prizes to incentivize and reward innovative solutions:

  1. First Place: $200 cash prize, mentorship opportunities with industry experts, and a feature in a prominent environmental magazine.
  2. Second Place: $100 cash prize and mentorship opportunities with industry experts.
  3. Third Place: $50 cash prize.
  4. Honorable Mentions: Certificates and potential to be featured in project showcase events.

Judging Criteria and Winner Selection: 

The submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges comprising urban planners, environmentalists, technologists, and civic leaders. The projects will be judged based on the following criteria:

  1. Innovation and Creativity (25%): Originality of the solution in addressing the challenges associated with urban green spaces.
  2. Impact (25%): The potential of the solution to enhance the accessibility, usability, and ecological benefits of urban green spaces, as well as its ability to improve community well-being and combat the urban heat island effect.
  3. Feasibility (20%): The practicality of implementing the solution in real-world urban settings, considering the technical, economic, and logistical aspects.
  4. Scalability (15%): The potential for the solution to be scaled up or adapted to different urban contexts and environments.
  5. Presentation and Documentation (15%): Clarity and thoroughness in the presentation and documentation of the solution, including a clear explanation of the concept, design, and potential impact.
  • The judging panel will review all submissions after the submission deadline.
  • Finalists may be invited to present their solutions to the panel in a live presentation or through a virtual meeting platform.
  • Winners will be selected based on the cumulative scores from the judging criteria.
  • Winners will be announced on the specified announcement date and will be contacted via email with further details about prize collection.
